Pg 1Death of Mrs. Wintrode
Mrs. Flora Bell Wintrode died at her home in this city last Saturday morning at 6:30 o'clock as a result of a nervous breakdown which, for the past two months has confined her to the house. She never recovered from the shock of her husband's death which occurred just seven months prior. About two months ago she suffered a nervous collapse while at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clyde Krabiel, from which place she was taken to her home in an automobile. She was never out afterwards.
Besides her mother, Mrs. Mary Hutchings, she leaves three children, Mrs. W. C. Krabiel; Miss Josephine, and the young son, John.
Mrs. Wintrode was born in Winterset April 22, 1857, and has lived here all her life. In 1878 she was married to Dr. J. H. Wintrode, then a young physician who came here from Philadelphia and located in the practice of medicine.
To them was born four children, one son dying in infancy, the remaining three are living in Winterset and were all present during her sickness and at her bedside when she passed away.
Perhaps there was no lady in Winterset who enjoyed a larger circle of acquaintances than she. Her name was familiar in every circle of ladies in the work of the church, charitable enterprises and works of mercy. She was a woman of most generous impulses. Her works of charity were widely distributed and marked with a most unselfish generosity. There are few families in Winterset that have not felt the influence of her kind intentions in times of distress or sickness. She has always been very thoughtful in her little attentions to the sick and suffering. Big hearted, generous to a fault and although impulsive she has brightened many a heart by her kindly thoughtfulness.
The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 4:30 in the handsome home on East Jefferson street, by the Rev. Henry Wallace, of Des Moines, an old-time friend of the family, assisted by the deceased's pastor, Rev. J. S. Corkey, of the Presbyterian church, and the remains were interred along side those of her husband in the family lot in the Rock City cemetery.
