Missouri Rites For Bessie Cox

Bessie M. Cox of St. James, Mo., a former Madison County resident, died Friday, December 4, in St. James at the age of 82. Although she spent most of her life in the St. James and Cuba, Mo., area, the family had lived in the Peru area for several years. For the past 15 months she had been living at Meadow Manor Nursing Home.

Born on February 8, 1897 in High Gate, Mo., she was the daughter of James and Lesa Jane Giesler Satterfield. She was united in marriage to Boyd Cox in 1918. Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cuba, Mo.

Survivors include three daughters, Marlene Elrod of Cuba, Mo., Mary Belle Rinehart of St. James, Mo., and Lenora Harthimmer of McAllen, Texas; two brothers, Russell and Randall Satterfield of St. James; two sister, Tena Davis Dickerson of St. James and Margaret Morelock of High Gate, Mo.; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, James Marion; two brothers, John and Roger Satterfield; and two sisters, Clara Satterfield and Eliza Stumpf.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 6 at James and Gahr Chapel with Rev. Tom Bray officiating. Burial was at the High Gate Baptist Cemetery.
