Claude F. Drake of Des Moines, a native of Madison County, died Saturday, Nov. 22, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 71. Mr. Drake had lived in Madison County until 1952 when he moved to Des Moines.

Mr. Drake was born in Madison County on March 23, 1909, and was united in marriage to Essie Snyder, who survives him. A retired tire repairman for Firestone, he was a member of Local 310 United Rubber Workers and the Capitol Hill Christian Church in Des Moines.

Also surviving are 10 children, Glenn Drake, John Drake, Fred Drake, Larry Drake, Betty Rankin, Mary Jo Ewald and Janis McAuley, all of Des Moines; Donovan Drake of Indianola; Donna Schnoor of Pine River, Minn., and Marlys Vaughan of Sumner; a stepson, Russell "Jack" Townsley of Des Moines; 41 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Taylor of Aransass Pass, Texas.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 26, at Hamilton's Funeral Home in Des Moines. Officiating was Rev. Robert Ricks of the Capitol Hill Christian Church. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
