Services for Harriet L. Smith, 92, Winterset, who died May 2 at her residence were held Wednesday, May 7, at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Zona Lautt officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
Born at St. Charles Sept 2, 1893, she was the daughter of Charles E. & Harriet Rhyno Gray. In June of 1919, she married Harry H. Smith at St. Charles.
Mrs. Smith attended Drake University and Simpson College and was a teacher in Madison County and at the Winterset junior high school for many years. She was a member of the Current Topic Club, Eastern Star for 50 years, Past Matrons Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother.
Survivors include a sister, Edna Herzog of Melbourne, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and two sisters. Her son, Harold, was killed in action in the European theater during World War II.
