Although not wholly unexpected this community was startled by the announcement Monday that F. D. Campbell had passed away. Mr. Campbell had suffered a stroke of paralysis a few days back but on the day previous to his death he was reported much better and his friends took hope in this fact, but the following day found him worse which resulted in his death.

Mr. Campbell was one of the foremost business men of Winterset and one of her most respected and esteemed citizens. He had been identified with the growth and prosperity of the city since 1874. He was a man of the highest character and the strictest integrity. There are few men in Winterset who possess the confidence and esteem of the people to a greater degree than did F. D. Campbell. In his death Winterset loses a valuable citizen and his large circle of acquaintances an enjoyable and a helpful friend.
