An Old Settler Gone

Steve Smith died at his home on Middle River southwest of the city on Tuesday. He had been in poor health for some time and succumbed to a sudden attack of erysipelas, his last sickness lasting but a few days. Mr. Smith was one of the early settlers of Madison county, having lived here since the early 50's.

Stephen Smith Dead.

Stephen Smith, who resided on Middle river bottom in Lincoln township south of the city, died Tuesday morning of diabetes. The funeral occurred Wednesday afternoon. He had been in failing health for a number of years and his death was not unexpected. He was one of the oldest settlers of the county and had lived on the home place for nearly forty years.
