Dr. Miles A. Guernsey of Des Moines, for many years a pushing farmer and teacher of South township, died of a complicated stomach trouble at his home on last Friday. His remains were consigned to the tomb by the side of his two infant children, who had preceded him many years, in the St. Charles cemetery, on Sunday afternoon in the presence of a large assemblage of relatives, friends and sypathizing old neighbors. He served in Co. B of the 33d regiment, Wisconsin infantry, and on that account a large number of ex-soldiers attended, wearing their memorial day badges as a mark of respect.

The remains of Dr. Guernsey of Des Moines were brought via the Great Western road and interred in the St. Charles cemetery Sunday, November 17. He died at Des Moines, November 15, death resulting from tumorous growths. Dr. Guernsey was for several years a resident of Madison county, but for a number of years has been engaged in the practice of medicine at Des Moines, where he enjoyed a large and lucrative practice. At the time of his death he was 62 years old. He leaves a wife and one daughter to mourn his departure and the loss is felt by a host of friends at Des Moines and various parts of the state. Dr. Guernsey was one of the boys who shouldered arms in the dark days of ’61-’65 and as he fought well for his country, in like manner he battled to alleviate the suffering of his fellowman, only desisting when the grim messenger encircled him. The sympathy of all the old friends and neighbors is extended to the family. Dr. Guernsey was a brother-in-law to Dr. S. M. Sayre and wife of our city.
