Well-Known Peru Resident Dies in Des Moines Hospital
Mrs. Walter Shearer, a well known resident of Peru most of her life, died last Thursday, March 30 at a Des Moines hospital. She was 78 years of age.
Mrs. Shearer was the former Maggie May Smith, daughter of James and Isabelle Walker Smith. She was born at Truro May 6, 1888. She was married Feb. 22, 1909 to Walter Shearer. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Shearer was a member of the Methodist church in Peru, and the Order of Eastern Star.
Her life was spent in the Peru community. She moved to Des Moines in 1961, after spending a short time in Douglas, Wyo.
Surviving are a son, John Shearer of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Olson of Douglas, Wyo.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Kale Funeral home in Truro, in charge of the Rev. James Nicholson. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
