Hugh E. Ward, East Tawas, Mich.

Hugh Eugene Ward, formerly a resident of Winterset, died Feb. 1 at his home in East Tawas, Mich., at the age of 72.

He was born the second son of the late Don C. and Vena E. Cox Ward on April 24, 1914 in Scott township, Madison County, near Winterset.

For 48 years he worked on construction projects, including the city sewer and treatment plans, schools, shopping malls and a Jewish temple. He was a construction superintendent in five states in past years.

After his retirement he worked for the National Forestry Service in Michigan as a volunteer campground host and as liaison for the forest service at the Lumberman's Monument visitors information center. His number of hours as a volunteer numbered over 2000 hours. Mr. Ward is survived by his widow, Marolyn of East Tawas; step-son, Thomas Tice, and daughter-in-law, Arlene, of Harrisville, Mich., and grandson, Tom, who shared the home of his grandparents since 1980.

Also surviving are two sister, Mrs. Clarence Chace (Evelyn Ward Chace) of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Lois Rinard of Des Moines. Internment was in the Algona Cemetery in his family plot, with graveside service conducted by the American Legion Post of Algona.

He was a World War II veteran of the Navy.
