Former Local Resident Had Moved to Indianola 15 Years Ago
Mrs. Donald Ward of Indianola died Saturday, Jan. 23, at a Des Moines hospital, at the age of 76 years. She was a native of Madison county.
Mrs. Ward was the former Zena (Vena) Cox, daughter of Francis and Sarah Reed Cox. She was born in this county, Dec. 8, 1888, and her early life was spent here. She attended rural school in this county, and normal school in Winterset. As a young woman, she united with the Methodist church here.
She was married in Winterset Jan. 18, 1911, to Donald C. Ward. With the exception of a few years in Utah, their lives were spent in Madison and Warren counties. They moved to Indianola 15 years ago.
Mrs. Ward is survived by her husband, five children, Mrs. Ruth Bevins of Des Moines, Robert of Kodiak, Alaska, Hugh of West Ritchfield, Ohio, Evelyn (Mrs. Clarence) Chase of Long Beach, California and Lois (Mrs. Caroll) Rinard of Des Moines; a sister, Mrs. Eva Newton of Winterset; a brother Boyd Cox of Highgate, Missouri, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Overton Funeral home in Indianola Tuesday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Glen Lamb, pastor of the First Methodist church in Indianola. Burial was in the Highland Park Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.
