John E. Drake, Winterset

John E. Drake, 70, of Winterset, died of cancer Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Madison County Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where the family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, at the First Baptist Church in Winterset with Pastor John Shaull officiating. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery, with Masonic services performed by Winterset Evening Star Lodge 43.

John Drake was born April 21, 1928, in Madison County to George W. and Amy (Estell) Drake. He had farmed and also had driven a truck, retiring from Contract Transport in Des Moines. During John's career as a truck driver, he amassed a total of 3.5 million miles.

He is survived by three sons, John P. Drake (wife Jeri) of Oklahoma City, Okla., James L. Drake (wife Lauri) of Carson, Iowa and Jerry W. Drake (wife Lorrie) of Winterset; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
