A. L. TULLIS DIES AT THE AGE OF 85

Former Auditor, Business Man, and Deputy Sheriff In Madison County.

A pioneer of Madison county and for many years a prominent resident of this community, A. L. Tullis of Des Moines died Sunday, October 14, at Dunlap, Missouri.

Death came at the home of his niece, Mrs. Walter Addison, with whom he has spent much of his time during the past two years. He had been critically ill for several months. He was 85 years old.

A. L. Tullis was born at West Point, Indiana, on December 4, 1849. At the age of 8, in 1858, he moved with his parents to Iowa, settling in Madison county, where he grew to manhood. He engaged in business here for many years, and also served as deputy sheriff during the terms of his father, Sheriff J. S. Tullis, and of Sheriff Ludlow. Later he was elected auditor of Madison county.

In 1894, Mr. Tullis moved to Des Moines, where he lived for more than 40 years, establishing himself as a prominent citizen of that city.

Among his distinctions was a charter membership in the Winterset chapter of the Odd Fellows lodge, of which he was a member for 62 years.

The body was brought to Winterset, Tuesday, for burial. The funeral was conducted Wednesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. C. W. Cannom of Johnston's Federated church of Des Moines.
