Page 1Death of Mrs. Jane Dowler
Mrs. Sarah Jane Dowler, a daugher of pioneer parents in Madison county, died at her home northwest of Truro on October 8, at the age of 77 years.
Mrs. Dowler was the eldest daughter of Jackson and Rebecca Hogg, and was born at Big Grove, near Macksburg, on July 16, 1857. at an early age she united with the Peru Christian church. She was married on November 1, 1882, to Steward R. Dowler of St. Charles. Her entire life, except for a year spent in North Dakota, was spent in Madison county.
Mrs. Dowler had been in declining health for several months. Three weeks prior to her death she suffered a stroke, which finally proved fatal.
She is survived by her husband, six children, Charles M. Dowler of St. Charles, Grace Irene Young of Truro, Elmer F. Dowler of St Charles, Maude Mabel Hiatt of Peru, and Asa and Steward E. Dowler of St. Charles. She also leaves four sisters, Mrs. John Garst of Peru, Mrs. Robert Conn, Mrs. Lee Wright and Mrs. Al Chritten of Concordia, Kansas; and three brothers, Charles, Albert and George Hogg, all of Concordia, Kansas. There are also five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the M. E. church at St. Charles on October 10, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Randall of the Truro Christian church. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
