Funeral Services Held on Monday, With Burial At Lewis
Dayton I. Painter of Winterset, a well-known resident of this community for most of his life, died Thursday, Feb. 20 at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 65 years of age. Mr. Painter was a son oF Ira V. and Ella Fleming Painter, and was born in Pottawattamie county on Aug. 21, 1898. He came with the family to this community 51 years ago. Since then, with the exception of a few years in Nebraska, his home had been in the Winterset community.
Mr. Painter was a pioneer bus driver in the early days of such service between Winterset and Des Moines, before the days of paved highways. He also owned and operated the Winterset-Des Moines bus lines for a number of years.
He was a member of the Ord Christian Union church.
He was married at Osceola on June 24, 1931, to Grace Harrison who survives him. He also leaves his father; Ira V. Painter of Winterset; three brothers, Verne and Phil Painter of Grand Island, Nebr., and Ira Painter Jr., of Ogallala, Nebr., and three sisters, Mrs. Beulah McNamara of Denver Colo., Mrs. Blanche Jones of Iowa City, and Mrs. Genevieve Carter of Norwalk.
Funeral services were held this Monday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Tom Foglesong of Des Moines.
Burial was made in Oak Wood cemetery at Lewis.
