DEATH OF ED BASS

Edward R. Bass, a well-known Madison county resident, died at his home in Macksburg Sunday after an illness that had confined him to his bed for more than thirteen weeks. The fatal illness started with an attack of pneumonia from which he finally failed to recover after a courageous struggle. He was 35 years old.

Mr. Bass had spent his entire life in Madison county, having been born here January 4, 1898, the son of Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Bass. He lived west of Winterset until two years after his marriage to Estella Bonham in 1927, when he moved to Macksburg where he has since resided. He operated a general store there.

The deceased was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset and of the St. Cecelia choir. Funeral services were held in St. Joseph's church Tuesday, October 24th, with Father T. P. O'Leavy of Greenfield and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, parents, and five brothers, George, Charles, William, Francis and Eugene, all of Winterset.

The Bass brothers and Frances Bonham served as pallbearers.

Well Known Macksburg Man Dies After Long Illness Burial Here.

Last rites for Edward R. Bass of Macksburg, lifelong resident of the county, were held Tuesday morning at ten o’clock at St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Winterset, the Rev. T. P. O’Leary of Macksburg saying the mass; burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Bass had been engaged in the mercantile business in Macksburg several years. His death Sunday at his home followed an illness of over three months.

He was born near Winterset January 4, 1898, the son of DeWitt and Mary Bass. His marriage to Estella Bonham of Macksburg, took place July 9, 1927. They live on a farm west of Winterset two years, and four years ago moved to Macksburg where he went into business.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s church and for twelve years had taken an active part in St. Cecilia’s choir.
