Helen Kashas, Greenfield

Helen Starns Kashas, 79, of Greenfield died April 10, 2000, at Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.

Graveside services were held Friday, April 14, at Greenfield Cemetery with Pastor John Emerson officiating.

Helen Kashas was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Madison County to George and Luella (Bridgeman) Lawton. In 1946, she married Day Starns Sr. They resided in Greenfield, where she continued to live following his death. In 1975, she married Kasmier Kashas, they also resided in Greenfield. Helen was a member of the Greenfield Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Day Starns Sr.; her second husband, Kasmier Kashas; her parents; a son; two grandsons; a sister; and five brothers.

She is survived by a son Harvey Starns (wife Teresa) of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two daughters, Inez Smith (husband Gordon) of Ottumwa and Dorothy Pettit (husband Jerry) of Winterset; two brothers, Dick and Rex Lawton, both of Nebraska; and several grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield.
