Russell James Giles, Winterset

Russell James Giles, 67, of Winterset, died of a heart ailment April 24, 1998 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were April 27 at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Pastor Dave McKnight officiated the service and burial followed at the Hebron Cemetery in Adair County. Military Graveside Services were provided by the American Legion Post No. 184 and V.F.W. Post No. 8142 of Winterset.

He was born on June 25, 1930, in Adair County, to John Henry and Bertha Helen (Pettit) Giles. On Dec. 5, 1964, he married Lois Lorrain Purscell. He worked in road construction and for the City of Winterset street department before retiring after 23 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a resident of Winterset since 1954, coming from Adair County.

He was preceded in death by his father, one infant brother and one sister.

Surviving relatives include his mother of Fontanelle; his wife, of Winterset; five sons, Scott Giles and wife Dixie of Thayer, Martin Giles and wife Mary Ann of Winterset, Timothy Giles of Winterset, David Giles of Corning, and Kevin Giles and wife Sandy of Creston; three daughters, Angela Giles of Creston, Penny Giles of Winterset, and Karla Giles and friend Dwight Welcher of Thayer, one brother, Eldon Giles and wife Leila of Winterset; and four grandchildren.
