William Durfey, Truro

Services for William LaFern Durfey, 57, Truro, who died May 14 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, were held Monday, May 18, at the Christian Church at Truro with the Rev. Ann Louise Weisenfluh and the Rev. James Nicholson officiating. Burial was at the Hartman cemetery in Truro.

Born Oct. 16, 1929 at Lorimor, he was the son of Hazel Fern and Gracie Reel Durfey. He attended Truro High School and was married to Marjorie Fenimore Nov. 21, 1952 at Truro.

Mr. Durfey was employed by Circle B. Cashway and was a veteran of the Korean war. He was a member of the Truro Congregational Church of Christ.

Survivors are his wife; sons, Alan and wife Janie of rural Indianola, Evan "Spike" and wife Laureen of Des Moines, and Ted of Indianola; his mother, Gracie Husted of Truro; a sister, Dottie Reed of Winterset; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and an infant son.

W. L. Durfey Rites in Truro

William LaFern Durfey, 57, Truro, died at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines Thursday, May 14, 1987. Services were held from the Christian Church in Truro Monday, May 18 with the Reverend Ann Louise Weisenfluh and the Rev. James Nicholson of Truro officiating at the 1:30 p.m. rites. Interment was in Hartman Cemetery in Truro.

William LaFern Durfey was born October 16, 1929 in Lorimor, Iowa, son of Hazel Fern Durfey and Gracie Mae Reel Durfey. He graduated from Truro High School and on November 21, 1952 was married to Marjorie Fenimore in Truro. Four children were born to this union.

He was employed by Circle B. Cashway, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Congregational United Church of Truro.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Truro; son, Alan and wife, Janie of rural Indianola; son, Evan “Spike” and wife, Laureen of Des Moines; son, Ted of Indianola; mother Gracie Husted of Truro; mother-in-law, Mary Fenimore of Truro; sister, Dottie Reed and husband, Herbert of Winterset; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and one infant son.

Truro

The citizens of Truro were quite saddened by the death of William LaFern “Bill” Durfey, 57, Thursday morning, May 13, 1987, 3:30 a.m. Bill was employed by and served as Vice-president of the Circle “B” Cashway Lumber, Inc. with offices in Winterset, Truro and surrounding area, extend their sympathy to Marjorie, his wife; his three sons, Alan and Ted of Indianola area and Evan of West Des Moines; and mother, Gracie Reel Durfey Husted. Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Truro U.C.C. church burial was in the Hartman Cemetery.
