The Winterset Madisonian
Winterset, Iowa
Wednesday, August, 1913James Francis Hoots was born in Coles county, Illinois, Aug. 3, 1886 and died Aug. 16, 1913, age 27 years, 13 days. In December, 1900, her came to Madison county with his parents, and with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas, has since made this his home.
He was married on Dec. 29, 1909 to Miss Ada Clark, who mourns the loss of a kind and affectionate husband.
At an early age, he joined the Methodist church, but after his marriage, he came into the Church of Christ, of which his wife was a member and he has ever since proven himself a worthy member and while health would permit, he was a regular attendant at Bible school and the church services.
For more than a year past he has been in poor health and the past winter he spent in New Mexico, hoping the change in climate would be of some benefit, but he grew weaker and returned in June to the home of his father-in-law, Frank Clark. There he was made as comfortable as possible and surrounded by friends. Only a few days ago, several friends of the family gathered to assist in a pleasant birthday for him. But his faith was firmly fixed and his trust was in God. He was resigned and patient and gave evidence of a bright hope in the home over there. He placed great value on the thoughtfulness of kind friends and was at all times full of appreciation of each act of kindness.
He was a member of the M. W. A. lodge and spent nine months near Colorado Springs at the sanitarium during the winter of 1911-12.
Besides the wife, he leaves to mourn his loss, a father, the mother having passed away in 1911, also one brother, Clarence and two sister, Mrs. Arthur Leinard and Miss Ona, all of this place.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Monday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis. Interment in the Rock City cemetery.
