Geraldine Ruth Blomquist (Bloomquist), Earlham

Geraldine Ruth Blomquist (Bloomquist), 74, who died July 31 at the Earlham Care Center, was born Dec. 1, 1906 near Waurika, Okla., the third daughter of August and Adela (Speer) Blomquist.

She moved to Iowa with her family in 1911. She grew to womanhood near Early Chapel where she was baptized.

Educated in a rural school she graduated from Earlham High School and also attended college in Grand Island, Neb. She taught rural schools in Madison County and later was employed as administrative assistant to the county superintendent.

During World War II, she was employed by Boeing aircraft company in Washington state. She returned and worked in Des Moines a short time and then returned to her former position with the county superintendent until her retirement in 1975.

Survivors include sister, Inez Hartman of Winterset, Vera Kerivan (Kerwin) of Longview, Wash., Elsie Beaman of Dexter, Augusta Rehard of Earlham and Kathryn Bly of Adel; and a brother, Carl of Dexter.

She was preceded in death by a sister, two brothers and her parents. The body was cremated and no services were held by Miss Blomquist's request.

Geraldine Ruth Blomquist was born December 1, 1908 near Warerika, Oklahoma, the third daughter of August and Adela Speer Blomquist. She passed away July 31, 1983 at the Earlham Care Manor. Her body was cremated and she had requested there be no memorial services.

Geraldine came with her family to Iowa in 1911. She grew to womanhood near Early Chapel Church in Jackson Township, where she was baptized.

Geraldine was educated in a rural school, graduated from Earlham High School and attended college in Grand Island, Nebraska. She taught rural schools in Madison County and later was employed as administrative assistant to the county superintendent. During World War II she was employed at Boeing Aircraft in the state of Washington. She returned to Des Moines and worked a short time then returned to her former position as assistant. There she remained until she retired in 1975. She has resided in the East Earlham retirement home since.

Those who survive are her five sisters, F. Inez Hartman of Winterset, Vera Kirrvan of Longview, Washington, Elsie Beaman of Dexter, Augusta Rehard of Earlham and Kathryn Bly of Adel; one brother Carl Bloomquist of Earlham; one aunt, Mabel Bricker of Earlham; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her parents, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
