Geraldine “Gerrie” Grubbs, 81, of Creston, died Monday, July 5, 2004, at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston.

Graveside services are today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at the Hill of Zion Cemetery, east of Orient, followed by a memorial service at the adjacent Hill of Zion Church, rural Orient.

Geraldine Grubbs was born March 18, 1923, in Winterset to Lloyd F. and Margaret C. (Picken) Jones. She graduated from the Winterset High School in 1941. Geraldine grew up in Winterset, taught north of Winterset, then she worked at an ordinance plant during World War II, before going to work at Banker’s Life in Des Moines. On June 11, 1948, she married LaVerne Grubbs at the Perry Baptist Church in Perry. They settled and farmed first in the Afton area until 1952 when they moved to Perry, farming there until they moved north of Creston in 1967.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Jones; a brother-in-law, Bill Ford; and a niece, Jolene Grubbs.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Sandra White of Creston and Barbara Grubbs of Creston; a brother, Lyle Jones of Oelwein; three sisters, Garnetta Jones of Winterset, Kathryn Ford of Long Beach, Calif., and Doris Boots of Des Moines; two grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Powers Funeral Home in Creston.
