Winterset Madisonian - March 1911

Samantha A. Hoots was born Feb. 6, 1865, in Colorado county, Illinois, and died March 19, 1911, aged 45 years, 1 month and 13 days. She was married to Edwin Hoots, Feb. 26, 1865. To them were born six children of whom four are living, two dying in infancy. J. Francis Hoots, living on a farm near Winterset, Clarence E., Mernie Ethel and Ona Bell, who are living at home. She also leaves a husband, an aged father, one sister and four brothers of Coles county, Illinois.

When 14 years old she united with the Baptist church while living in Illinois. After her marriage she with her husband went to the Methodist church.

She lived in Illinois, until 1901, when the family came to Madison county, where she has spent most of the time until her death.

She was a devoted christian, a kind and loving wife and mother, always ready to do anything for the comfort of those around her. She leaves a host of friends to mourn her loss.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. church by Rev. Walburn, with burial in the Winterset cemetery, March 22, 1911.
