Sam Beck Is Killed

Runaway Accident Is Fatal To Adair County Farmer Well Known Here

Samuel M. Beck, a prominent Adair county farmer was killed Tuesday afternoon as the result of a team runaway.

Mr. Beck was riding on a load of corn when the front endgate gave way and threw him behind the team. The team frightened and ran away, the loaded wagon passing over the driver. Mr. Beck was unconscious when those who saw the runaway came to his assistance and he died almost immediately.

Mr. Beck was a son of Mr. and Mrs. James G. Beck and grew to manhood on the Beck farm one mile south of Pitzer. After his marriage to Miss Etta Brown, he moved to a farm north of Orient, where he has since resided.

Funeral services will be held Thursday forenoon at 10:30 at the Orient Methodist church. He is survived by his wife and three children, Ruth, Mildred and Floyd, one brother John of Winterset and three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Dooley of Topeka, Kansas; Mrs. Ethel Miller of Grinnell and Miss Jeanette Beck of Winterset.

Samuel M. Beck

Samuel M. Beck, son of James G. Beck and Mary Thomson Beck was born near Winterset, Iowa, December 13, 1870, and passed from this life at the age of 61 years, 8 months and 23 days on September 6, 1932. From this Scotch mother and Irish father he inherited those traits of character which endeared him to his family and intimate friends, and made him respected and admired by all who knew him.

He was united in marriage to Etta Brown on February 26th, 1902. To this union were born four children, Ruth, Floyd, Mildred and one child who died in infancy. With his family, he moved from Madison county in 1908, to a farm in Adair county which has since been his home.

In boyhood he united with the United Presbyterian church at Pitzer. On coming to Adair county he united with the Methodist church at Orient. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity.

He is survived by his wife and three children, Ruth, Floyd and Mildred; by three sisters and a brother; Mrs. Elizabeth Dooley of Topeka, John and Jeannette Beck of Winterset and Mrs. Ethel Miller of Grinnell.
