Mrs. Emma Vandewater, long-time resident of the Hebron community, died on Wednesday of last week at the age of 51 years.
Mrs. Vandewater was the former Emma Edna Havlovitz, and was born in Madison county on October 2, 1884. On September 17, 1901, she was married to Henry Vandewater. They moved to a farm located one mile west of Hebron, in Adair county, where she spent the remainder of her life.
She united with the Christian church at Pleasant Ridge school in 1911. When this group disbanded, she placed her membership in the Hebron Methodist Episcopal church. She taught a Sunday school class for a number of years and was a president of the Ladies Aid society there.
Mrs. Vandewater was the mother of two children, who survive her. They are Harvey D. Vandewater of Orient, and Lloyd L. Vandewater of Dexter. She also leaves her husband; three sisters, Annie Kletica of East West Moreland, New Hampshire, Mary Robison of Winterset, and Barbara Schweers of Sacramento, California; three brothers, Ed Havlovitz of Jetmore, Kansas, Joe Havlovitz of Brownell, Kansas, and George Havlovitz of McCracken, Kansas, besides a number of grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from her home, last Friday in charge of the Rev. E. J. Zumsteg, pastor of the Hebron church. Burial was made in the Hebron cemetery.
