John Wearmouth Died Last Week

Long-Time Resident of Orient Neighborhood Passes After Long Illness

A long period of failing health culminated in the death of John Wearmouth last Thursday near Winterset. He was 79 years of age.

Mr. Wearmouth was a native of England, and was born in the village of Darum, on September 29, 1858. When he was eight years old he came to America with his parents. He came to Iowa in 1875, settling on a farm near Orient. There he was married to Alice Gilliland, who died in 1901. They were the parents of seven children.

Mr. Wearmouth lived in Adair county until 1930. Since that time he had lived in Madison county, making his home with his sons, William and Robert. He had been in ill health for the past 10 years.

Nearest surviving relatives are his brothers, Thomas Wearmouth and a sister, Anna Carley, both of Creston; and his three sons, Robert, William and Thomas Wearmouth, all of Winterset. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday from Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset, in charge of the Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial was made in Adair county.
