ADA E. MCCORKLE DIES AT 82 YEARS

Winterset Resident Stricken Suddenly, Dies After Brief Illness

Mrs. Ada McCorkle of Winterset died at Memorial hospital Friday, June 26, at the age of 82 years. She was stricken suddenly, and died after a brief illness. Mrs. McCorkle was the widow of Lloyd McCorkle, whose death occurred in 1960.

She was the former Ada Easter and was born near Oakland on March 24, 1882. As a child she lived in western Kansas in a sod house with a dirt floor. She attended Simpson college at Indianola for one term, and was a rural school teacher for a number of years.

As a young woman she was married to Lloyd McCorkle. They farmed near Pitzer, then near Olivet, S. Dak., and later near Cedar Falls, Iowa. When her husband entered the contracting business, she spent many years accompanying him on construction jobs in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri, living in a series of trailers.

In 1948, she and her husband built the home in Winterset where she was living at the time of her death.

Mr. and Mrs. McCorkle observed their Golden wedding anniversary in 1948 with a trip to Europe and the Holy Land. She had also traveled extensively in other areas of the world.

She was a life-long member of the Methodist church in early life attending West Star church of which her grandfather was one of the founders.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Wenger of Owatonna, Minn., two sons, Paul McCorkle of Sac City and Hugh McCorkle of DeKalb, Ill., eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Lenna Easter of Washington. D.C., Mrs. Earl Dodson of Chevy Chase, Md., and Mrs. Mildred Benjamin of Los Angeles, Calif.; and three brothers, Ersie Easter of Cedar Falls, and Frank and William Easter of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday from the First Methodist church of Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John C. Porath. Burial was made in Stringtown cemetery.
