Elizabeth Rogan was born in Kirkenbright, Scotland, Oct. 16, 1844 and died at her home in Winterset Feb. 10, 1922. She married in 1863 to Matthew C. Vaughan, who died twelve years ago, and a son, James. W., died eighteen years ago. She leaves to mourn her loss, a daughter, Mrs. Agnes McNamara of Winterset; a son, Wilson of Newton; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; also a sister, Mrs. C. S. Allgeyer of Winterset and a brother, John Rogan of Egger, Ark. She was a resident of Madison county for more than 60 years. She was a loving mother and loyal to her many friends. Her sudden death was a shock to everyone, as she was in her usual good health until Friday morning, when she complained of not feeling well, her death occurring at noon. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday from St. Joseph's Catholic church, with interment in Stringtown cemetery.

Elizabeth Rogan was born in Kirkenbright, Scotland, October 16, 1844 and died at her home in Winterset February 10, 1922. She was married in 1863 to Matthew C. Vaughn, who died twelve years ago. A son, James W., died eighteen years ago.
Accessor E. F. Connoran, in calling at her home, found her not well and after leaving the house, informed a neighbor, who went in and at once notified Mrs. John McNamara that her mother was ill. Mrs. McNamara came and persuaded her mother to go to bed. While preparing food for Mrs. Vaughn, she heard a peculiar sound and when she reached her mother’s bedside, found that death had come.
Mrs. Vaughn was a woman of much intelligence and high character, who maintained a deep interest in all affairs, particularly the welfare of the young people of her family.
She leaves to mourn her loss, a daughter, Mrs. John McNamara, of Winterset; a son, Wilson, of Newton; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. C. S. Allgeyer, of Winterset; and a brother, John, of Egger, Arkansas. Funeral services were held on Monday, at 1:30 p.m. from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with interment taking place in the Stringtown Cemetery.
