James Monaghan, widely known Union township farmer, died Wednesday morning, April 23, 1947, at the Mercy hospital in Des Moines. He had been critically ill since last Friday, when he suffered a stroke at his farm home near Winterset. He was taken to the hospital Sunday following a second stroke that day.
Mr. Monaghan was 70 years of age. He was born in Madison county, and spent practically all his life as a resident of this community. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Monaghan, who were early settlers northeast of Winterset.
Mr. Monaghan was long active in the business affairs of his community.
Surviving are his wife, the former Virgie Allgeyer; and three sisters, Mrs. Joe Nolan of Kansas, Mrs. Ellen Melroy of Winterset, and Mrs. P. J. Cunningham, Sr., of Winterset.
Funeral arrangements had not been made as the Madisonian went to press.
