Wednesday, February 3, 1915S. D. FORD Dies Suddenly
S. D. Ford died at his home on west Jefferson street last Saturday morning after an illness of one week from pneumonia and other complications. While he had not enjoyed good health for many years, his last illness was very brief and few were aware of his serious condition. The deceased was a highly respected citizen and had an extensive circle of friends and acquaintances in Winterset and in the west part of the county where he live for many years before retiring from farm work to live in Winterset. His father, Minor Ford, was one of the early settlers of Jackson township and one of the strong factors in the Establishment and support of the old West Star M. E. church.
The deceased is survived by his widow, the former Ella J. Jellison, one daughter, Mrs. C. H. Kuntz who lives on a part of the old farm in Jackson township. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Joe Easter and Mrs. Emanuel Wolverton of this county and Mrs. James Hollett of Kansas.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Monday afternoon and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Page 4Sylvanus Dean Ford, son of William M. and Diannah Ford, was born in Douglas township, Madison county, Iowa September 23, 1855 and died very suddenly at his home in Winterset on West Jefferson street Saturday morning, January 30, 1915, aged 59 years, 4 months and 7 days. He was the eldest of nine children, five of whom with his parents have died.
He was married to Miss Elmira Jellison September 4,1878. To them were born one daughter, Myrtle, now Mrs. Charles Kuntz. Besides the wife and daughter, he is survived by three grandchildren: Dean, Helen and Genevieve Kuntz, three sisters, Mrs. Alice Hawlett, of Westphalia, Knasas; Mrs. Emma Easter and Clara Wolverton, of Jackson township, Madison county, Iowa.
He was converted in 1889 and joined the M. E. church at West Star where his membership was held at the time of his death. When in reasonable health he was usually in his place at church and Sunday School. He was a devoted husband and father, beloved by all his family whose joy and comfort he considered first. He has been in poor health for considerable time but not arouse alarm, but, all in all he was patient and uncomplaining.
The funeral services were conducted from the Winterset M. E. Church Monday at 2 o’clock by Rev. W. G. Hobansbelt, assisted by his pastor, Rev. R. A. Grigsly. The W.R.C. attended in a body. A good congregation was present though the weather was inclement, to pay respect to a greatly respected one of our long time residents.
