Eliza J. Brantner was born near Wheeling, W. Va., May 7, 1831, and died at her home in Winterset, Dec. 17, 1913, age 82 years, 7 months and 10 days. On June 18, 1849, she was united in marriage to Albert Gordon. Mr. Gordon died in 1858. Five children were born to this union, two boys and three girls: Mrs. Sarah A. Finney of Winterset, Mrs. Clara Heaton of Enid, Okla., Mrs. Mary Gillispie, who died in 1893, Milton C., of near Winterset and Francis, who died in infancy.
In 1864, she was united in marriage to James Farris. Mr. Farris died in 1870. Three children were born to this union, Mrs. Emily Weber, who died April 14, 1899, Stell Maidson, of Alberta, Canada, and John, who died at four years of age.
In 1879, she was united in marriage to Henry Baker.
In 1856, the family moved from Pennsylvania to Iowa locating in Madison county, which has since been her home, living on the same farm northeast of Winterset, for thirty seven years, moving to Winterset in 1893. She united with the Church of Christ at the age of eighteen.

June 18, 1849 she was married to Albert Gordon, who died in 1858. Five children were born to them, two boys and three girls: Mrs. Sarah A. In 1879 she was united in marriage to Henry Baker.

She united with the Church of Christ at the age of 18 and although her life has had many sorrows, yet to the last her faith and hope was firmly stayed in her Saviour.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Friday at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis. Interment was made in the Baptist cemetery north of Winterset.
