George W. Wheeler Died Here Saturday

Funeral Services Were Held Tuesday at Church of Christ

George W. Wheeler of Winterset died at the Peterson Nursing home here Saturday, Feb. 25 at the age of 67 years. He had been in ill health for some time, having been a patient at the University hospital in January.

Mr. Wheeler was born near Greenfield on June 23, 1882, the son of George and Mary Jane Wheeler. His early life was spent in that community.

He was married in 1900 to Myrtle Belle Lyst, whose death occurred in 1927. They were the parents of six children, all of whom survive. In 1948 he was married to Mary Witherell of Winterset, who survives him.

His children are Floyd Wheeler of Ford, Wash., Freddie Wheeler of Lorimor, Mrs. Ruth Johnston of Saint Ignatius, Mont., Westley E. Wheeler of Stuart, Robert Wheeler of Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Vergie Klemke of Columbus, Nebr.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Winterset Church of Christ, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. I. E. Linkletter. Burial was made in the Orient cemetery.

George Westley Wheeler, son of George and Mary Jane Wheeler, was born near Greenfield, Iowa, on June 23, 1882. He was the youngest child of 11, and passed quietly away at the Peterson Nursing Home in Winterset, Iowa, at the age of 67 years, 8 months, and 2 days.

He received his education and grew to manhood in and near his birthplace.

In the year of 1900, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Belle Lyst who preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 1927. To this union were born six children, all of whom survive him. They are Floyd F. of Ford, Wash.; Freddie C. of Lorimor; Mrs. Ruth Johnston of Saint Ignatius, Mont.; Westley Edward of Stuart; Robert D. of Tampa, Fla.; and Mrs. Vergie Klemke of Columbus, Nebr.

On June 29, 1948 he was united in marriage to Mary Witherell of Winterset. Until his death he was a member of the Church of Christ at Glendon.

Besides his children he leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, one brother, Charlie W. of Ronan, Mont.; 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

On Jan. 17, 1950 he was admitted to the University Hospital, Iowa City. He was later returned to his home where his wife, children, and friends cared for him through his remaining days.
