Marilyn Bown, Winterset

Marilyn J. Bown, 69, of Winterset died Nov. 2, 2003, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, Nov. 5) at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset with Pastor Lisa Locoh officiating. Burial was at Worthington Cemetery, Madison Township, Madison County.

Marilyn Bown was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Dallas County to Roso L. and Ida (Smith) Grose. She was a graduate of Van Meter High School. On April 20, 1958, she married George I. Bown in Van Meter. She and her husband farmed in Warren County for three years before moving in 1962 to their current farm in Madison County.

Before her marriage, Marilyn worked for Dr. Felter in Van Meter as a secretary. Following her marriage, she worked for a short time as a secretary for Indianola High School. Her most recent employment was with the UFS Bank in Winterset. She was a member of the Worthington Methodist Church, where she had held many offices and Sweet Adelines.

She was preceded in death by her father.

She is survived by her husband, George Bown of Winterset; two daughters, Debra Jones of Des Moines and Diane Koch of Van Meter; two sons, David Bown of Earlham and Douglas Bown of Des Moines; her mother Ida Smith of Winterset; a brother, Ronald Grose of Macksburg; a sister Sandra Brown of Macksburg; and seven grandchildren.
