Arthur Speer, Winterset

Arthur J. Speer, 86, of Winterset, died of a heart ailment Feb. 15, 1997 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were Feb. 18 at Patterson United Methodist Church. Pastor Jon Gaul officiated the services and burial was at the Montpelier Cemetery in Patterson.

He was born in Warren County on Oct. 21, 1910 to Otis B. and Nellie Ann (Bland) Speer. He was a 1928 graduate of Martensdale High School. He married Pearl M. Brown on June 4, 1939 in Peru. He was a farmer and had been a resident of Madison County for most of his lifetime. He had been a 4-H leader and was a member of the Patterson United Methodist Church where he had been lay leader and trustee for many years. He had also been Crawford Township Clerk for 12 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother.

Surviving relatives include his wife; one son, Gale Speer and wife Beverly of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Nancy Tuttle and husband Dale of Winterset; two brothers, Ernest Speer of Winterset and Howard Speer of West Plains, Mo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Patterson United Methodist Church.
