Gretchen Radakovich, Earlham

Gretchen Margaret Radakovich, 82, of Earlham, died of complications of surgery Oct. 12, 1997 in Des Moines. Funeral services are today, Oct. 15, at the First Presbyterian church in Earlham with the Rev. Dr. Ray Martin officiating the 11 a.m. services. Burial will follow at the Earlham Cemetery.

She was born on January 29, 1915 to Ed and Maude Hoy on a farm east of DeSoto. She was a competive basketball player at DeSoto high school where she graduated in 1933. She married George Radakovich in 1941. In 1956, they bought their present farm and Gretchen's sense of humor and hospitality will always be remembered by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and her step-mother.

Surviving relatives include her husband, George; one daughter, Shirley and husband Dick; one son, Steven and wife Penny; her brothers and sisters; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her great-nephews and nieces.

Gretchen Margaret Radakovich, 82, of Earlham, died of complications following surgery at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines on Sunday, October 12, 1997.

Funeral services were held Oct. 15, 1997 at First Presbyterian Church in Earlham, with burial at the Earlham Cemetery in Earlham.

Radakovich was born on Jan. 29, 1915 to Ed and Maude Hoy on a farm near DeSoto and lived in Adel until moving to Earlham 57 years ago. She married George Radakovich in 1941. She was a homemaker and member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Joie De Vie Club.

Radakovich is survived by her husband, George; a daughter, Shirley Matland of Glenwood; a son, Steven of Earlham; three brothers, Galen Hoy of Adel and Irvin and Howard Hoy, both of Redfield; two sisters, Darlene Robinson of Dallas Center and Eleanor Martin of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth, and her step-mother, Georgia.
