BENJAMIN F. BARE Died Thursday

Benjamin F. Bare, member of a pioneer Winterset business family, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 1951 at the Memorial hospital in Winterset. He had been in delicate health for several years, as result of a heart condition.

Mr. Bare was 77 years of age, and had spent all but a few years of his life in Winterset. He was born near Winterset June 9, 1874, a son of J. O. and Elizabeth McCormick Bare. As a small boy, the family moved to Winterset where the elder Mr. Bare was engaged in the grocery business for more than half a century.

During a varied business career, Mr. Bare operated a grocery store and bakery in Winterset, and engaged in the automobile business in Des Moines, returning to this community about 1931.

Mr. Bare was a pioneer in the automobile field. He owned one of the first three automobiles in Madison county, and operated a taxi service here about the turn of the century.

As a young man, he was married to Bertha Beerbower of Winterset. They were the parents of a son, now General Robert Bare of the U. S. Marines, who is stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

His second marriage occurred Dec. 8, 1927, in Des Moines, to Rosetta Conner, who survives him. He also leaves a granddaughter and great granddaughter; three step-sons, W. J. and Walter Conner of Boone, and Charles Conner of Chicago; and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Florence Simpson of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Methodist church here in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Glenn Parrott. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
