Francis Marion Patton was born in Estill county, Ky., May 3, 1838 and died March 25, 1908, aged 69 years, 10 months and 22 days. He was a member of the United Brethren church and had a simple, unquestioning faith. He was characterized by an ever ready sympathy and a noble hospitality. No one ever came to this brother for help and was turned away.

Mr. Patton leaves a wife and ten children to mourn his loss. All of the children were present at the funeral except a daughter who lives in the west. An aged brother from the east also arrived in time for the funeral on Sunday afternoon when he was laid away to await the resurrection.

About thirty years ago deceased moved to Nebraska where he made a large circle of warm friends. About three weeks previous to his death he had moved to Winterset expecting to make this county his future home. His last illness was a brief period of but six days and was patiently born. When death summoned him he was ready to go. At nine p.m. he closed his eyes forever on the scenes of this earth. He leaves behind him the comforting assurance that he has entered into resurrection yous and endless days.

Grave, the guardian of our trust,

Grave, the treasury of the skies,
Every atom of our faith

Lies in trust in the to rise.
Hark! the judgment trumpet calls,

Soul, rebuild thy form of clay,
Immortality thy walls

And eternity thy day.

The funeral occurred Sunday conducted by Rev. Bennett and interment was made at the Rock City Cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic Order.
