MADISON COUNTY TREASURER DIES

Death Strikes Fred Miller Early Wednesday Morning

Fred M. Miller, Madison county treasurer since 1949, died unexpectedly early Wednesday morning at his home in Winterset. He was 62 years of age. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Funeral services for Mr. Miller will be held at 2 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 17, from Richards Funeral home in Winterset.

A life-long resident of Madison county, he was born Nov. 7, 1895 on a farm in Douglas township.

His active life was spent in farming, as a salesman for the old C. R. Peter implement firm here, in the circulation field for the Winterset Madisonian, and more recently as a county official. For the past nine years, he has served as county treasurer, and was an unopposed Republican candidate for re-election to that office at the Nov. 4 general election.

He was a veteran of World War I, and a member of the local American Legion post.

Surviving are his wife Mildred, whom he married on April 20 of this year and two step-daughters, Barbara and Janet Smith.

Officiating at the services this Friday will be the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz. Burial with military rites, will be in the Winterset cemetery.
