Winterset Madisonian, Friday, January 30, 1891, Pg 5, Earlham News Column.

This week........B. S. Griffin and family, of Kansas, arrived Monday morning , in response to a telegram telling him of the illness of his mother........The early morning of Jan. 19th, 1891, witnessed the passing away of one of our loved and honored pioneer women. At that hour Eliza A Griffin surendered her spirit to her God who gave it. The deceased was born in Wayne county, Indiana, Aug. 14th, 1827 and lived 63 years 5 months, 5 days. She was the second of the eight children of Seth and Elizabeth Wilson, five of which children and her mother are still surviving her. On April 15th 1850 she was married to Cyrus Griffin, and in a few years they moved to the then frontier section of western Iowa. Here has been her home ever since and here she has passed through the gradations of pioneer life, when houses dotted the lonely prairie only at long intervals, to a quiet home clearly surrounded by kind and attentive neighbors.
