Lanson, son of Aaron and Margaret Howell, was born Sept. 23, 1847 in Coshocton county, Ohio. He came with his parents to Crawford township, Madison county, Iowa when two years old. He married Miss Elizabeth L. Hughart in 1868. To this union were born Charles E., who now resides in Douglas township, and Ollie May, who died in infancy. Following the death of his wife, he moved back to the old homestead in Crawford township, where he continued to reside until his death.
He was married to Miss Mary E. Williams on Sept. 6, 1887. To this union eight children were born; Wesley E. of Martensdale; Vernon, who died June 7, 1909; Darwin C., now with the A.E.F. in France; Irwin and Russell, at home; Ruth, who passed away Feb. 6, 1898; Curtis, with his mother, in Long Beach, Calif.; and an infant son, who died May 28, 1900.
The death of Mr. Howell was anticipated, but came unexpectedly at the noon hour of Dec. 29, 1918, while at Long Beach, Calif., where he had gone with his wife and son to spend the winter.
For many years the deceased was a leading member and supporter of the Patterson M. E. church. Mrs. Howell, Charles, Wesley, Dawin, Irwin, Russell, Curtis and other relatives with friends mourn his death.
