Mr. and Mrs. John Murphy, formerly of Winterset but now of Des Moines, are the subjects of the deep sympathy of their former friends and neighbors on account of the death of their seven-year old daughter, Kate, of diphtheria. She died on Friday last, after an illness of but four days.

Little Kate Murphy, the six year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Murphy, of Des Moines, died of diphtheria last Friday. She had been sick but a very short time. Her death took place at 9 a. m. and the funeral occurred at 3 p. m. of the same day.

The little girl was born in Winterset and spent much of the last year here with her mother at the home of Mrs. Murphy’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Jones, and at Dr. Davisson’s. She was a bright, happy and remarkable pretty child and her death caused much sorrow in Winterset.
