Over the river the boatman pale,
Carried another the loved and best,
We hear not the murmur of the spreading sail,
We saw not the boat as it met the gail,
And carried our loved one to a land of rest.Joe and Rhoda Hiatt have the sympathy of all the community in their great loss which they sustained in the death of their little daughter who passed away on the 26th of February. To make it more sad, if possible, she was an only child. Funeral services at the M. E. church conducted by W. C. Smith.

Page 2Died, February 26, Beula May, only child of J. M. and Rhoda Hiatt. She was aged three years, 2 months, 9 days and an exceptionally bright and loving child, loved by all who knew her.
Death has taken from among us,
From our fireside far away;
The heart's idol of our household,
Bright eyed, loving Beula May.It was on Feb. 26th, in the evening,
Jesus to our lamb did say;
"Come up higher, leave the earthly,
Be the Saviour's Beula May."There's her cradle standing empty,
And her clothes are lain away;
In the bureau neatly folded,
Worn no more by Beula May.There's her playthings in the corner,
Off she sat with them at play;
They'll be touched no more forever,
By the hands of Beula May.But we must prepare to meet her,
As she walks the golden way;
In that land so bright and holy,
We will join our Beula May.Peru, Iowa, March 6th, 1891.
