Services for Nettie Howell, 77, Winterset, who died Feb. 24, 1984 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, were held Monday, Feb. 27 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Byron Ayers officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
Born Apr. 4, 1906 in Madison County, she was the daughter of Chester and Carolina Amanda Holderbaum Thrailkill. She taught school in Douglas and Penn townships after graduating from Dexter High School.
A lifetime resident of the area, she married Clarence Howell on Dec. 15, 1926.
She had worked at Good's Bakery and with the school lunch program. She was a member of Esther Circle of the WSCS, the MAO Club, the Farm Bureau Ladies, and was active in the WCTU. She was a Sunday schol teacher at the West Star Church and served on the Madison County Extension Council.
Survivors include sons, Robert of Winterset and Ronald of Cedar Rapids, a daughter Betty Dalton of Iowa, City; brothers, Chester of Adel, Maurice of Macksburg and Wayne and Ray, both of Orlando, Fla., sisters, Tillie Heifner of Tulsa, Okla. and Cora Hunter of Orlando, 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters.
