James R. Bennett Dies At Creston

Former Madison County Farmer Succumbs at 76 Years

James R. Bennett, former Madison county farmer, died at his home in Creston early Saturday morning, Jan. 4th at the age of 76 years. He and his family had been living in Creston since last November.

Mr. Bennett, the eldest son of James and Rebecca Williams Bennett, was born in London, England on May 29, 1872. At the age of six months he and his parents came to America, settling for a while in Indiana. When he was 12 years of age, they moved to Carbon in Adams county, Iowa. Here he was married May 13, 1894 to Lillian Jones, who survives him. In 1918 they moved to a farm east of Macksburg, and four years later to a farm southeast of Zion where they resided for 26 years, or until they moved to Creston.

The Rev. W. J. Hazel conducted his funeral at the Zion church Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 2 o'clock, and burial was made in the church cemetery.

Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife, and their twelve children, all of whom were home for the services: Ralph, Frances and Aiden Bennett of Creston, Harold of Afton, Bernard of Macksburg and Dr. Louis Bennett of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Florence Kessler of Lorimor, Mrs. Bertha McKinzie of Macksburg, Mrs. Edna Creswell of Dexter, Mrs. June Haaf of Orient, and Mrs. Edith Huffman and Mrs. Elsie Ahnen of Creston. One son, Glenn Bennett preceded the father in death. He also leaves 32 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two brothers and one sister; Fred and Homer Bennett and Mrs. Frank Campbell of Garnett, Kan.
