Robert Gene Benoit, 76, of Winterset died of pneumonia Dec. 2, 1999, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 6, at Winterset Cemetery with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating.

Robert Benoit was born July 11, 1923, to Leo E. and Gladys (Spencer) Benoit of Gilmore City. He was a 1940 graduate of Winterset High School. On Nov. 19, 1966, he married Kathryn M. Orr in Las Vegas, Nev. An Army veteran of World War II, he had resided in Des Moines before moving to Winterset 21 years ago. Robert had owned and operated the former Benoit Grocery Store, worked as a salesman for the former Pidgeon's Furniture Store, farmed and was a concessionaire at the Iowa State Fair.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He is survived by a son, Spence Benoit of Cody, Wyo., a daughter, Nanette Till (husband Robert) of Cody; two stepdaughters, Sherry Dalrymple (husband Grant) of Des Moines and Judy Leslie of Winterset; a brother, Jack Benoit (wife Patsy) of Winterset; and three stepgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to his family.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
