December 19, 1951HUGH BELLMAN Of Winterset Dies
Hugh Bellman of Winterset, a prominent Douglas township farmer for many years, died at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines Thursday, Dec. 13, 1951. He was 61 years of age and had been seriously ill for several months.
Mr. Bellman was a native of Monroe county, where he was born near Melrose on May 8, 1890, a son of George and Mary Carter Bellman. When he was 12 years old the family moved to a farm near Indianola where he grew to manhood.
He was married Jan. 26, 1916, to Hazel Howell. They moved to a farm in Douglas township where they lived for 30 years, and where Mr. Bellman was active in many community and church affairs.
Since 1947 they had made their home in Winterset.
Mr. and Mrs. Bellman were the parents of two daughters, Mrs. John Foster of Winterset, and Marjorie Ellen, who died in 1939.
In early life, Mr. Bellman had united with the Spring Hill Methodist church. After moving to Madison county, he transferred his membership to the West Star Methodist church in which he was active for 30 years.
In addition to his wife and daughter, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Merrill Clark of Indianola and Mrs. Frank Lockwood of Des Moines; and four brothers, Homer Bellman of Des Moines and John, Donald and Elmer Bellman of Indianola.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Winterset Methodist church in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Glenn Parrott. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
