A funeral service was held today at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church for Sydney Hulme Morris of Winterset, who died at Winterset Care Center North on May 9, 1982. He was 87 years old.
Born in Congleton, England on September 11, 1894, he was the son of George and Alice Henshall Morris. Although born in England, he spent most of his lifetime in Madison and Adair counties.
He was a veteran, serving in the army in World War I. Mr. Morris was a farmer by occupation, retiring in 1953.
Mr. Morris was married twice. His first wife, Pearl Sawyer, died in 1975. On July 9, 1976 he married Mary Ellen Sinclair in Burton-On-Trent, England.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pearl, and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, George, of Winterset; two daughters, Margaret Clark of Davenport and Barbara Rollins of Ft. Dodge; two brothers, Ritson Morris of West Des Moines and Dr. Harold Morris of Long Beach, Calif.; a half-brother, Carl Barnett of McAlester, Okla.; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Rev. Byron Ayers officiated at the funeral service. Burial was in Winterset Cemetery.
