Virgil Smith, Van Meter

Funeral services for Virgil T. Smith, 88, were held Mon., Mar. 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church near Van Meter with burial at the church cemetery. Mr. Smith died of a stroke March 12 at his home.

He was born in Van Meter and lived on the family farm all his life. He was a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau and the Iowa Pork Producers.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; five sons, Norman of Prole, Ronald of Adel, Dennis of Boone, Gary of Van Meter and George of Moscow, Idaho; five daughters, Jo Anne Wearmouth of Perry, Shirley Ham and Marilynn Van Zee, both of Winterset, Betty Mapes and Retta Smith of Des Moines; a sister, Helen Haave of Chicago; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
