Former School Teacher Here Died in Montana on June 26
Nell A. Volk, a native of Adair county, and a former teacher in the schools of Madison county, died June 26, in Missoula, Mont., where she had made her home for the past 18 years. She was 46 years of age.
Miss Volk was born in Adair county May 11, 1899, the daughter of John Michael and Bertha Wilson Volk. She graduated from the Orient high school, attended Drake university in Des Moines, and graduated from Montana State university.
She began her teaching career in the rural schools of Madison county, and then taught in the public schools at Macksburg, Bondurant, Runnells and Des Moines before going to Missoula, Mont., in 1927. For the past 19 years she had taught mathematics at Central Junior high school in Missoula.
Miss Volk was affiliated with the Presbyterian church at Missoula, and was active in the affairs of the American Association of University Women, of which she was a member.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. D. V. Denton of Greenfield and Maud of Missoula; and a brother, John K. Volk of Tacoma, Wash.
Funeral services were held June 28, at Lucy chapel in Missoula, with the Rev. R. E. Cameron of the Presbyterian church officiating, assisted by the Rev. T. E. Bennett of the Episcopal church; and on July 1 rites were held at the Hill of Zion church in Adair county, in charge of the Rev. A. R. Weed of Tingley and the Rev. Mr. Rayborn. Burial was made in the family plot at the Hill of Zion cemetery.
