Merle Ellen Crawford, 99, died of congestive heart failure April 27, 2001 at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 30 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Robert officiating. Burial was at Penn Center Cemetery in Penn Township, Madison County. Merle Crawford was born July 26, 1901 in Adair County to William Edward and Sarah Ellen (Nelson)Beaman. She married Cash A. Crawford on Oct. 30, 1923, in Winterset. A homemaker and farmwife, Merle had lived in Winterset since 1966, having previously resided in Adair County. She was a member of several church circles and the First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, four brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Cash, of Winterset; a son, Paul W. Crawford of Dexter; a daughter, Ann Hoadley (husband Richard) of Dexter; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
