Margaret Louise Clark, 75, died of cancer Oct. 30, 1999, at Winterset Care Center South.

Graveside services at Winterset Cemetery with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation.

Margaret Clark was born Jan. 27, 1924, in Adair County to Sydney H. and Pearl (Sawyer) Morris. She grew up in the Madison County area, graduating from Winterset High School in 1940. She then moved to Davenport in 1941. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Iowa in 1947 and continued her post graduate studies in American literature also at the University of Iowa. She married William Clark on Feb. 10, 1951, in Iowa City. Margaret taught school in Webster and Scott townships in the 1940s, then taught eighth and ninth grade English at Sudlow Junior High School in Davenport from 1947 to 1951. From 1951 to 1978 she taught English at Washington Junior High School in Rock Island, Ill. She also worked as a salesperson for the Interstate Book Store in Davenport after her retirement from teaching in 1978. She was a member of the Lions Club, Tri-L Book Club, Current Topic Club, Madison County Democratic Party, Friends of the Winterset Public Library and the Winterset Community Educational Foundation.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by a brother, George Morris of Winterset; a sister, Barbara Rollins of Ft. Dodge; five nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice or Winterset Community Educational Foundation.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
